US President Donald Trump has announced the formation of an “AI Force", including an artificial intelligence “czar” he would appoint to oversee the initiative, as he also launched an online poll asking users whether the term “artificial intelligence” (AI) should be replaced with a different term.
Trump said on Saturday the new force would be modelled on the Space Force, which he established during his first term.
“For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous success in my first term," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI “Czar”; only high-IQ individuals need to apply!”
In recent months, reports of AI systems displaying capabilities beyond what many industry insiders expected have fuelled calls for slower development and stronger government safeguards.
Trump has dismissed those concerns, describing opposition to AI as another “hoax” and arguing that additional regulations would hurt the industry.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it as it grows," he wrote.
The poll
Earlier, Trump launched an online poll asking users whether the term 'artificial intelligence' (AI) should be replaced with a different term.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump argued that the familiar term does not fully capture what he described as a rapidly expanding technological revolution.
“Many people think that the words 'Artificial Intelligence' are inaccurate and very ineloquent,” Trump wrote.
“A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomenon would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or Extreme Intelligence (EI) or Supreme Intelligence (SI),” he suggested.
Trump presented the question as a public poll and encouraged his followers to participate.
He ended the post with a direct appeal to users: “This is a poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever-growing 'Revolution'?"
