After Iranian officials said Tehran fired warning shots at a US warship to keep it from entering the Strait of Hormuz, Brent oil prices jumped more than five percent, nearing $115 a barrel before dropping to $111.

The incident has heightened concerns over possible disruption to one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, through which large volumes of crude oil, refined products, and liquefied natural gas from Gulf producers are transported.
