Kuwait suspended commercial flights on Wednesday after an Iranian drone attack struck the country’s main airport, damaging a passenger building and injuring several people, according to Kuwaiti authorities.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said “a number of hostile drones” targeted Kuwait International Airport, causing severe damage to the passenger terminal and wounding multiple individuals.
Officials did not immediately provide details on the extent of the injuries or when flight operations might resume.
The airport attack came hours after Iran and the United States exchanged strikes amid diplomatic efforts to bring a permanent end to a conflict that began in February.
The US military said it carried out strikes on an Iranian military facility after Tehran launched missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain late on Tuesday.
The latest developments raise fresh concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and civilian transportation networks across the Gulf, a region already rattled by months of military escalation and disruptions to shipping and air travel.
Kuwaiti authorities said security agencies are assessing the damage and monitoring the situation closely.
