Regional authorities in Ukraine say killings follow a large wave of attacks carried out by Russian forces with emergency teams responding across multiple regions as assessments of casualties continue.

Russian strikes have killed at least nine people in Ukraine, regional authorities said, after a wave of attacks from Moscow across several major cities.

The head of Kiev's military administration Tymur Tkachenko said in a post to Telegram that "23 wounded are known of in Kiev, including a child. Tragically, the number of those killed has risen to four".

Earlier, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said "five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed during firefighting operations" in the northeast Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

"At least 5 more were wounded," Klymenko wrote on Telegram, noting that the casualties occurred as a result of a repeated Russian strike.

Kiev cathedral catches fire

The Dormition Cathedral in the famed Orthodox complex of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra was on fire after Russian strikes, the city's mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Monday.

"A fire has broken out on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The roof of the Dormition Cathedral is on fire," he wrote on Telegram, as several major Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, were under attack.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone strike killed three people and wounded three others in the Russian city of Tula, around 200 kilometres (120 miles) south of Moscow, the regional governor said on Monday.

"Tonight, the residential sector of Tula urban district came under UAV attack," Dmitry Milyaev said on Telegram.

"Regrettably, according to initial information, three people were killed. Three more, including a one-year-old child, were wounded," he said.
