US is now deciding what's next for Venezuela after the "capture" of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Adela Flores, US President Donald Trump has said, adding Washington "will be involved in it very much".

"We'll be involved in it very much. And we want to do liberty for the people," Trump told Fox News in a telephone interview on Saturday, adding that the daring attack by US special forces showed that Washington was "not going to be pushed around."

Trump added that the US is going to be "very strongly involved" in Venezuela's oil industry.

"We have the greatest oil companies in the world, the biggest, the greatest, and we're going to be very much involved in it," he said.

Trump said Maduro and his wife were aboard a US warship and will face prosecution in New York.

Maduro, he claimed, was captured from a highly guarded "fortress," adding that no Americans were killed in Saturday’s military attack.

"He was in a fortress," Trump said.

"You know, that we had nobody killed was amazing," he said, adding that a "couple of guys were hit, but they came back and they're supposed to be in pretty good shape."

"I mean, I watched it, literally, like I was watching a television show. And if you would have seen the speed, the violence," Trump added.

"We watched every aspect of it."
