Iran summoned Germany’s ambassador to Tehran on Thursday over remarks by senior German officials and what it described as “interventionist” activities by the German embassy, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
Ambassador Axel Dittmann was summoned by Alireza Yousefi, an assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe, who conveyed Tehran’s protest.
Yousefi rejected German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s remarks about Iran and criticised Berlin’s approach towards Iran and regional issues.
He also criticised Germany’s political and military support for Israel.
Dittmann said he would convey Iran’s objections to his government.
The summons followed Merz’s call for Iran to halt its “military nuclear programme”, end its support for regional proxies and lift what he described as a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran rejected the chancellor’s “knowingly distorted” narrative on Wednesday.
