Israeli authorities confirmed that 430 activists aboard a Gaza-bound aid flotilla are en route to Israel after their vessels were intercepted in international waters on May 19.
87 have reportedly begun a hunger strike to protest their detention and show solidarity with Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
The Global Sumud Flotilla reported that all 54 of its boats were stopped roughly 250 nautical miles (460km) off the coast of Gaza, and said a total of 428 participants from over 40 countries had been detained.
Livestream footage from the flotilla showed soldiers firing shots at two of the boats, though the type of ammunition remains unclear and no casualties were reported.
The convoy departed from Türkiye on May 14 in a renewed effort to deliver aid to the starving population in the besieged Palestinian territory.
