Türkiye introduced stricter social media regulations on April 22, aimed at better protecting children and teenage users under 15, citing growing concerns over online safety and mental health.
The measures require stricter age verification systems, while giving parents greater control over their children’s screen time, in-app purchases and account settings.
Safer, youth-friendly versions of platforms will also be developed for minors, with stricter obligations applying to social media platforms with more than 10 million daily users in Türkiye.
The measures focus on strengthening child protections, increasing platform accountability, and ensuring faster action against harmful content and misleading ads.
Türkiye joins countries including Australia, France, Greece, Portugal and Spain in adopting similar safeguards.
Gaming platforms will also be required to implement tighter rules in line with those applied to social media platforms under the new law.
