An armed man has been arrested outside US President Donald Trump's Southern California golf course ahead of the president's planned visit to Los Angeles, local media reported.
Citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, reports said deputies arrested a suspicious individual on Sunday outside Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes after federal agents reported seeing a person walking the property.
Trump was aboard Air Force One on his way to California when deputies announced the arrest.
The president is scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee dinner at his golf course Tuesday evening.
Deputies identified the man as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey, who they said was also under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in a robbery case.
Taele was taking photos and videos on the grounds and appeared to be monitoring "security-planning activities," according to the sheriff’s department.
He was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition.
Detectives assigned to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force executed a search warrant for Taele's residence on Monday due to the "potential security implications surrounding the incident," the sheriff's department said.
Escalating threat history
Prior to the incident in Southern California, Donald Trump faced multiple high-profile assassination attempts and several security breaches.
In July 2024, a gunman opened fire from a rooftop during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing Trump's right ear, killing one rally attendee, and critically injuring two others before being killed by Secret Service counter-snipers.
Just two months later, in September 2024, Secret Service agents spotted an armed man, Ryan Wesley Routh, hiding in the treeline with an SKS-style rifle at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida; Routh fled the scene after an agent fired at him and was later apprehended and charged with attempted assassination.
Security threats surrounding Trump escalated further in February 2026, when Secret Service agents and local law enforcement shot and killed an armed intruder carrying a shotgun and gas canister after he breached the perimeter at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
More recently, in April 2026, federal prosecutors charged 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen with attempting to assassinate President Trump after he rushed a security checkpoint with a shotgun at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, DC.
