Russia and Ukraine on Friday traded accusations concerning overnight strikes, which have killed three people and injured over 10 others.
Perm Governor Dmitry Makhonin claimed in a statement on Telegram that air defences in the region shot down 39 drones during overnight strikes, which he said killed one person who succumbed to wounds inflicted during the attack.
“Cleanup operations are underway following the drone strike on an industrial facility. Emergency services are working at the scene,” Makhonin further said.
In the Ulyanovsk region, Governor Aleksey Russkikh said that overnight Ukrainian drone strikes in his region caused damage to industrial and civilian infrastructure.
“According to preliminary data, eight people – seven adults and one child – were injured,” Russkikh said, noting five of those injured are in moderate condition.
Aleksandr Gusev, governor of the Russian border region of Voronezh, said that four people were injured in the regional capital, while claiming 88 Ukrainian drones were downed during overnight attacks.
Expressing that two of those injured were hospitalised in moderate condition, Gusev said debris from downed drones damaged several non-residential and industrial buildings.
Meanwhile, the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery has sustained damage and temporarily suspended operations, Rostov Governor Yury Slyusar said, noting that there were no casualties in the attack on the region.
The Russian defence ministry claimed that its air defences downed 592 Ukrainian drones overnight over 18 regions, as well as over the Black Sea, and occupied Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.
Strikes in Ukraine
The ministry further claimed that overnight strikes in Ukraine hit a drone assembly and storage site belonging to Ukrainian defence technology company Fire Point in the town of Boryspil in the Kiev region.
It also claimed hitting two logistics centres in Ukraine’s southern city of Odessa and the village of Nerubaiske, as well as docking infrastructure and three storage facilities in the port of Reni and a dry-cargo vessel en route to the port of Odessa, which are allegedly used in supporting the Ukrainian military.
Tymur Tkachenko, governor of the Kiev region, said that a production facility was damaged in the region’s Boryspil district, while a warehouse building in the Brovary district and three private residences in the Obukhiv district were also damaged.
“A total of nine properties in the region sustained damage. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. Emergency services are working to address the aftermath of the attack,” Tkachenko added.
Damage was also reported in the Ukrainian capital, with the Kiev City Military Administration reporting that one person was injured as residential and non-residential buildings were affected in a number of districts. It later added that one person was killed in the strikes.
In the Odessa region, Governor Oleh Kiper said that one person was killed and another injured in Russian strikes that targeted a residential area and the logistics facilities of a postal service.
Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that it shot down 267 out of 295 drones launched by Russia overnight.
Both Russia and Ukraine have ramped up strikes in recent months, targeting each other’s logistics centres, ports, and energy infrastructure.
Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, maintaining that their strikes are directed at military targets or facilities linked to military activities.
