Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations over a wave of overnight and daytime strikes that killed at least seven people and wounded more than 40 others on Friday.
Perm Governor Dmitry Makhonin said air defences shot down 39 drones during overnight attacks, with one person later dying from injuries. He said an industrial facility was damaged and emergency services were working at the scene.
In Ulyanovsk, Governor Aleksey Russkikh said Ukrainian drone strikes damaged industrial and civilian infrastructure. He initially reported 12 people wounded before revising the figure to 12.
Voronezh Governor Aleksandr Gusev said 13 people were injured in the regional capital and that drone debris damaged several non-residential and industrial buildings.
Strikes hit Russian industry
The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region was damaged and temporarily suspended operations, Governor Yury Slyusar said. No casualties were initially reported, although debris later damaged two residential buildings in the Myasnikovsky district.
Ukraine’s General Staff said its overnight strikes hit oil refineries in Perm and Novoshakhtinsk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said the attacks hit the Iskra defence plant in Ulyanovsk and two radar stations in the Rostov region. The claims could not be independently verified.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences had shot down 592 Ukrainian drones overnight across 18 regions, the Black Sea and Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.
Russia reports strikes across Ukraine
The Russian ministry said its forces struck a drone assembly and storage site operated by Ukrainian defence technology company Fire Point in Boryspil, in the Kiev region.
It also reported strikes on two logistics centres in Odessa and nearby Nerubaiske, as well as port infrastructure and storage facilities in Reni. The ministry said a dry-cargo vessel heading to Odessa was also targeted.
Kiev region Governor Tymur Tkachenko said a production facility in Boryspil district, a warehouse in Brovary district and three private homes in Obukhiv district were damaged. He said there were no casualties.
In Kiev, the city’s military administration reported one person injured and damage to residential and non-residential buildings.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko later said one person had been killed and 20 wounded in overnight strikes, while a daytime drone strike on an office building killed three people and wounded seven.
In Odessa region, Governor Oleh Kiper initially reported one person killed and another wounded in Russian strikes on a residential area and postal logistics facilities. The regional prosecutor later said two people were killed and two injured.
Ukraine’s Air Force said it had shot down 267 of 295 Russian drones launched overnight.
Independent verification of the claims from either side remains difficult amid the ongoing war.
Moscow and Kiev have intensified strikes in recent months, targeting logistics centres, ports and energy infrastructure. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians and say their strikes are directed at military targets or facilities linked to military activities.
