Yemen's Houthi group has carried out an attack using ballistic missiles and drones against a military base in southern Saudi Arabia, the group announced.
In a statement posted on X platform, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack targeted weapons depots and command-and-control facilities at the Sharurah military installation.
Saree stated that a large barrage of ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft was deployed, claiming the strikes successfully hit their designated targets.
He framed the attack as direct retaliation for ongoing Saudi military strikes on Yemen, warning of expanded attacks deeper inside Saudi territory should air strikes persist.
Saudi authorities have not formally commented on the claims regarding the Sharurah base.
However, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence reported earlier on Saturday that a projectile landed in Al-Tuwal governorate in the southwestern Jazan region, injuring two people and causing material damage to a mosque, several residential buildings, and civilian vehicles.
Shifting front lines
The strikes coincide with significant shifts across Yemen's territorial map amid escalating clashes between government forces and the Houthis since July, which ended years of relative calm.
According to the group, the Houthis now control the entirety of western Al-Hudaydah province following advances in western Taiz province, where they captured the strategic coastal city of Mokha and its Red Sea port.
The advance has placed Houthis in close proximity to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the world's most critical maritime choke points.
Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces have made territorial gains in the northern Al-Jawf province along the Saudi border, advancing toward its provincial capital, Al-Hazm.
Active combat also continues across contested fronts in Marib, Al-Bayda, and Al-Dhale provinces.
Yemen has remained gripped by conflict since the Houthis captured the capital Sanaa and large swathes of the country in 2014, prompting the military intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government.
