The Palestinian population worldwide has reached an estimated 15.5 million, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), with around 7.4 million living in historic (and Israeli-occupied) Palestine and 8.1 million in the diaspora.

In a May 12 statement marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba (the Catastrophe), the forced mass displacement and expulsion of Palestinians during Israel’s foundation in 1948, the bureau added that more than two million Palestinians have been displaced inside the occupied Palestinian territories amid Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and ongoing illegal Israeli settlement expansions in the occupied West Bank.
