Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party has secured 355 of the 450 seats in Russia’s State Duma, according to preliminary results announced by Central Election Commission chief Ella Pamfilova on Monday.
The result gives the ruling party a larger constitutional majority than it held after the 2016 election, when it won 343 seats, according to preliminary figures.
United Russia received 57.83 percent of the party-list vote, compared with 49.82 percent in 2021, with more than 95 percent of ballots processed.
United Russia candidates were also leading in 208 of the 225 single-member constituencies, Pamfilova said.
The Communist Party won 13.81 percent of the party-list vote, followed by the LDPR with 8.98 percent and New People with 7.96 percent.
A Just Russia received 4.96 percent, narrowly missing the 5 percent threshold for party-list representation.
Turnout rises as Kremlin-backed parties dominate
The three-day election ended Sunday, with turnout reaching about 59.32 percent, up from 51.72 percent in 2021, according to the Central Election Commission.
More than 111 million voters were eligible to participate through polling stations and remote electronic voting.
Ten parties contested the federal party-list vote, including United Russia, the Communist Party, LDPR, A Just Russia and New People, as well as Rodina, the Communists of Russia, the Greens, the Pensioners’ Party and the Party of Direct Democracy.
Yabloko was excluded from the federal party-list ballot, although some of its candidates contested single-member constituencies.
The election was Russia’s first parliamentary vote since Moscow launched its full-scale military campaign in Ukraine in 2022 and was held amid the continuing conflict.
Voting also took place in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, a move rejected by Kiev and criticised by some Western governments.
The State Duma is elected through a mixed system, with 225 seats allocated through the nationwide party-list vote and another 225 through single-member constituencies. A constitutional majority requires at least 301 seats.
