US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her post as US ambassador to Greece, following mounting allegations of professional misconduct involving lavish gifts and cash-for-access schemes.

Asked by reporters as he departed the White House for Ohio whether he was actively weighing Guilfoyle's dismissal, Trump replied: "Well, we're looking at it. Yeah, we're not happy."

The president's remarks follow media disclosures indicating the administration is reassessing her diplomatic status amid claims that she accepted expensive gifts while serving in Athens and solicited money in exchange for providing access to senior administration figures prior to her Senate confirmation.

The State Department's Office of Inspector General (OIG) has launched an official investigation into the matter, according to CNN.

The inquiry follows formal demands from US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to investigate Guilfoyle's diplomatic conduct and ties to corporate lobbyists.

At the heart of the controversy is Christos Marafatsos, a lobbyist representing Greek corporate clients who reportedly accompanied Guilfoyle inside high-level bilateral government meetings without proper authorisation.

The scrutiny deepened after reports emerged of an explosive dinner on March 18, 2026, during which Guilfoyle reportedly cited the political collapse of the Romanian government and warned Greece's Energy Minister: "We can do that to any country we want. We can do that here."
