Turkish Ambassador to Damascus Nuh Yilmaz has said that cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Syria are expanding in the naval field.
A Turkish military delegation, led by Naval Forces Commander Adm. Ercument Tatlioglu, visited the Port of Latakia, where Turkish naval vessels were docked, at the invitation of Syrian Navy Commander Brig. Gen. Mohammed Al-Saud, Yilmaz said on Tuesday on X.
“Cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Syria are also developing in the naval field,” he noted, expressing satisfaction with the progress.
“We were proud to host our military delegation led by Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu. TCG Istanbul (one of the ships that took part in the visit) made us proud in Latakia,” Yilmaz said.
Tatlioglu and his accompanying delegation visited Latakia on Monday aboard the TCG Istanbul frigate as part of efforts to enhance cooperation between Türkiye and Syria and to support the restructuring of the Syrian Armed Forces, a statement shared Tuesday by the National Defense Ministry on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal said.
On arriving in Latakia, Tatlioglu was welcomed at the dock by Al Saud, and the two commanders later held delegation-level talks.
Turkish Ambassador Yilmaz also attended the meetings, the statement said.
As part of the visit, inspections were carried out at the Latakia Military Port, it added.
