Forces loyal to Yemen's internationally recognised government shot down several Houthi drones over the central city of Marib on Friday after the group launched a fresh attack on the strategic stronghold, the defence ministry said.
The Houthis targeted Marib with several missiles and drones during the morning hours, according to the defence ministry's official news outlet, September Net, citing military sources.
The attack hit several areas of the city during busy hours, but officials did not immediately report casualties or assess the extent of the damage.
Strategic city remains a flashpoint
Government-run Saba TV also reported that several Houthi drones were intercepted over Marib but provided no additional details.
Marib, a key government-held city in central Yemen, hosts large numbers of internally displaced people and has remained one of the main flashpoints in the country's long-running conflict between the internationally recognised government and the Houthi group.
