At least eleven Palestinians, including five children, were killed and 14 others injured on Wednesday after a residential building damaged during Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza collapsed in southwestern Gaza City, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The six-storey building collapsed onto its residents and tents sheltering displaced Palestinians nearby, leaving dozens of people trapped beneath the rubble, WAFA reported, citing rescue teams.
Residents said more than 60 people, most of them displaced Palestinians, had been staying in the building, which had suffered damage and developed cracks following Israeli bombardment.
Rescue efforts hampered by equipment shortages
Rescue teams began working early on Wednesday to search for survivors and recover those trapped beneath the rubble, but faced a severe shortage of heavy machinery and other equipment, according to WAFA.
The collapse adds to the growing number of Palestinian casualties reported since a ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
Gaza’s health ministry said 1,375 Palestinians have been killed and 4,686 injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began.
The ministry said the Palestinian death toll from Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023, has reached nearly 74,000, with more than 174,000 people injured.
