Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's Liberia legacy

Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was the first female to be elected as the head of an African state. Although she was popular abroad, Sirleaf began to lose support at home, especially after the Ebola outbreak in 2013.

Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf became a global phenomenon when, in 2005, she became the first female head of state to be elected in Africa. 

Over time she brought political stability to a country ravaged by war, and went on to win the Nobel peace prize in 2011.
