The Arab-Israeli War in 1948 uprooted 700,000 Palestinians from their homes. The refugee crisis it created still remains unresolved.

Today, there are more than seven million Palestinian refugees, defined as people displaced in 1948 and their descendants.
More than 700,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Palestinians call this mass eviction "the Nakba" which means "catastrophe" in Arabic.
Israelis mark the following day on the Gregorian Calendar with Israeli Independence Day.
