Can "Gemoy" Prabowo Subianto be the president for all Indonesia? | The InnerView
Prabowo Subianto, a former military general, has promised to be a president for all Indonesians, but there are mixed feelings among the population. For some, his leadership represents a return to more authoritarian times, but for the almost 60% of the population who voted for him, they believe in his vision for the development of the country. With the son of his former rival President Joko Widodo as his running mate, Prabowo has vowed to continue the country’s impressive economic growth. Despite allegations of human rights abuses going back decades, young people voted enthusiastically for the Prabowo-Gibran ticket – in large part due to a catchy social media campaign. Imran Garda travels to Jakarta to talk to a range of Indonesians in activism, business and politics in the aftermath of the vote. He also looks into the debate surrounding the Nusantara project, Indonesia’s ambitious plan to move its capital to the jungles of Borneo.
