Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Azerbaijan on Tuesday and Wednesday for high-level talks on bilateral relations, defence cooperation, economic ties and regional developments, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said.
During the visit, Fidan is scheduled to hold talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at both bilateral and delegation levels.
He is also expected to meet Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov and be received by President Ilham Aliyev.
Trade, energy and defence on agenda
The talks are expected to highlight the strategic level reached by Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations, with Fidan expected to reaffirm Ankara’s satisfaction with the current state of ties.
Fidan is also expected to stress the need to intensify efforts to reach the $15 billion bilateral trade target set by the two countries’ presidents.
Energy and transportation projects are expected to feature prominently, alongside cooperation in defence, security and military affairs.
The ministers are also expected to discuss cooperation through multilateral platforms, particularly the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
Fidan is expected to consult Azerbaijani officials on preparations for the 13th OTS summit and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), both of which Türkiye will host in the near future.
Türkiye backs Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process
Regional security and the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process are also expected to be key issues during the visit.
Fidan is expected to describe the current period as a “historic opportunity” to establish lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and reiterate Türkiye’s support for good-neighbourly relations between the two countries.
He is also expected to welcome recent positive developments in the peace process and underline Ankara’s backing for efforts to improve infrastructure in Karabakh, restore energy and trade routes, and strengthen regional connectivity.
Fidan and Bayramov are further expected to exchange views on regional and international developments.
