Syrian President Ahmad al Sharaa has met with Mazloum Abdi, the ringleader of the YPG-led SDF disbanded terrorist group, to discuss practical steps for its integration into state institutions.

Al Sharaa received "Mazloum Abdi and his accompanying delegation at the People's Palace in Damascus, in the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad al Shaibani and the Governor of Deir ez-Zor Ziad al-Ayesh," a Syrian presidency statement said.

The meeting addressed "a number of issues related to integration within Syrian state institutions and the steps for the next phase, in order to strengthen the state's presence and support security and stability," the statement added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Abdi announced the dissolution of the YPG-led SDF terror group — the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organisation — during a news conference, following a January 29, agreement reached between the Syrian administration and the group that provided for a ceasefire and gradual integration into national institutions.

The announcement comes after the PKK terror group formally dissolved itself and ended its decades-long armed campaign, following sustained counter-terrorism operations by the Turkish military that largely dismantled the organisation’s operational capacity and eliminated its ability to operate inside Türkiye.

US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack welcomed the YPG-led SDF terrorist organisation's decision to dissolve itself, stating on X that "a united Syria for all takes shape."
