Türkiye and Belgium have taken steps to strengthen bilateral ties across diplomacy, defence and trade, with senior ministers from both countries holding a series of meetings in Ankara on Wednesday.
Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot on the sidelines of Belgium's Economic Mission to Türkiye, according to diplomatic sources.
Prevot also serves as Belgium's minister of European affairs and development cooperation.
On the defence front, Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler received his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken at the Turkish National Defence Ministry, where Francken was welcomed with a military ceremony including the playing of both countries' national anthems and an inspection of the honour guard.
The two defence ministers subsequently held closed-door talks, after which a letter of intent was signed between Türkiye's National Defence Ministry, the Presidency of Defence Industries, and Belgium's Defence Ministry.
The signing ceremony was attended by Defence Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun and Belgian National Armaments Director Lt. Gen. Bernard Phaleg.
