A classified United States intelligence assessment has warned that deepening political, economic, and social fractures could place Israel at risk of civil war or state collapse, according to an investigative report.

The analysis, titled "Fracture From Within", was prepared in August by the CIA's Red Cell— a specialist unit mandated to challenge prevailing intelligence consensus and provide alternative strategic perspectives — independent investigative outlet Drop Site News reported, citing two US sources familiar with its contents.

The assessment outlines a volatile convergence of domestic pressures confronting the country ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27.

Key friction points include severe economic contraction, soaring defence expenditure, escalating settler violence across the occupied West Bank, and deep societal resentment over compulsory military service exemptions granted to ultra-Orthodox men.

Combat trauma, political survival, and isolation

The report singles out Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's battle to retain power as a primary driver of constitutional and political instability.

Years of genocide in Gaza and continuous warfare across Lebanon and Iran have exacerbated existing social divisions, with significant numbers of returning reservists suffering severe psychological trauma following protracted deployments.

The military draft has developed into one of the country's most acute domestic fault lines, as repeated reserve mobilisations fuel anger over blanket exemptions maintained for the ultra-Orthodox community.

Compounding these domestic stresses, the CIA document warns that growing international diplomatic isolation—characterised by eroding support within the United States—threatens to accelerate internal destabilisation.
