Kuwaiti air defences have engaged hostile missile and drone attacks originating from Iran, the military announced, as regional clashes escalate across the Gulf.
"Kuwaiti air defences are currently engaging hostile missile and drone attacks following the heinous Iranian aggression," the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces stated in a post on X.
The military leadership confirmed that loud explosions heard across parts of the country are the result of air defence batteries actively intercepting incoming hostile targets, urging citizens and residents to strictly observe security and safety directives issued by the competent authorities.
Base security
The Iranian IRIB news agency claimed US military bases in Kuwait were struck during the operation.
It reported one of the American bases was hit, sending plumes of smoke rising.
The aerial assault unfolds amid heightened military hostilities across the Gulf region, where the United States and Iran have been trading strikes since February.
Kuwait has repeatedly found itself within range of Iranian attacks.
It remains unclear whether Kuwaiti armed forces or domestic infrastructure sustained damage or casualties during the aerial barrage.
