A new law in Greece requires all farmers to register their workers, but activists say conditions will not change unless they are given full legal status.

In March, 42 Bangladeshi strawberry pickers won a lawsuit before the European Court of Human Rights. Their boss was found guilty of shooting them when they asked for overdue wages.

In Greece, about 90 percent of all farm labourers are immigrants, mostly from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

They work long hours for low wages, and live under difficult conditions.

While a new law gives requires farm owners to register all workers, human rights activists say that without full legal status, conditions for the workers are unlikely to change.
