One person was killed and eight others injured in an attack on King Fahd airport in Dammam on Wednesday, Saudi civil aviation authorities said.

The Saudi-led coalition also said it intercepted and destroyed four drones in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

The incidents come against a backdrop of Houthi militia attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Dozens of Israeli fighter jets flew close to Iran’s border in a manoeuvre that may have been intended to provoke an Iranian military response, Israeli media reported Wednesday, citing US sources.

Israel’s private Channel 12 reported that the operation took place overnight Monday into Tuesday and involved dozens of fighter jets accompanied by Israeli Air Force refuelling aircraft.

According to the broadcaster, the aircraft turned back towards Israel after approaching the Iranian border at a very short distance.

Iran would consider US political assets and infrastructure belonging to countries participating in a new war against it as “legitimate targets” if Iranian officials were assassinated or civilians killed, a senior Iranian security official warned, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.

The Tehran-based official said Iran assumes that the US and Israel will launch another attack and considers Washington’s diplomatic gestures “unreliable.”

Yemeni media reported that the Houthi militia attacked Al-Rayyan International Airport in the eastern province of Hadramout with three drones, while the militia also claimed a ballistic missile strike on Aden in the south.

The reported attack on Al-Rayyan airport in the city of Mukalla was the first since military escalation resumed in July, according to Anadolu’s correspondent.

The state-run Hadramout TV channel reported that the airport had come under a Houthi militia attack, saying three strikes targeted the runway and the airport’s electricity administration.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia signed an amended protocol to restructure their Supreme Coordination Council and strengthen its role in expanding bilateral cooperation, under the leadership of Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
