Ilan Baruch: The Israeli diplomat who couldn’t defend his country anymore | The InnerView
He was once Israel’s Ambassador to South Africa. But Ilan Baruch left the foreign service in protest against the occupation of Palestinian lands and the direction Israel was taking under Benjamin Netanyahu. Exactly one year after the Hamas attack on October 7th, with Israel facing accusations of genocide and peace seeming as elusive as ever, Baruch talks to The InnerView in occupied East Jerusalem. The former Ambassador, who describes himself now as a peace activist, talks to Imran Garda about the occupation and the trauma and anger inside Israel since October 7th. The two discuss the ominous consequences in the region since Netanyahu unleashed one of the most brutal assaults on the Palestinians in history – and to what extent Israelis and Palestinians can learn from the lessons of Apartheid and what brought it to an end in South Africa.
