A massive drone attack involving 650 drones targeted Moscow and the surrounding region overnight, killing one person, Russian authorities said on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old man was killed in a village on the outskirts of Moscow, while several homes were damaged, regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov said. Six people were also wounded, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

State news agency TASS described the attack as the second-largest drone assault on Moscow and the surrounding region in the past two years.

Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range strikes in recent months, targeting civilian and industrial infrastructure, including energy, transport and port facilities, as well as vessels in the Black Sea.

Russia has said it plans to step up strikes on infrastructure targets, including in Kiev, as winter approaches.
