The death toll from last week’s flash floods and mudslides along the China-Nepal border has risen to 1,130, with nearly 4,500 people still missing, according to official data released on Wednesday.
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said 1,114 bodies had been recovered since massive flash floods hit the Himalayan country on August 26. It said 292 people had been injured and 3,916 remained missing.
Authorities said about 12,000 people had been rescued from flood-hit areas, while more than 21,000 security personnel, including army and police, had been deployed to support search and rescue operations.
About 1.6 million people have been affected by the floods in Nepal, according to the authority.
At least 16 people have been killed on the Chinese side of the border, while 546 remain missing, Xinhua News reported.
The missing in China include 261 foreign nationals, according to the state news agency.
