Türkiye has welcomed the Baku Declaration as adopted at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), saying the member states reaffirmed their commitment to preserving peace, prosperity and stability across Asia.

In a statement on Turkish social media platform NSosyal on Thursday, the Turkish foreign ministry also welcomed the admission of Laos as CICA's 29th member, saying the expansion would strengthen the group's effectiveness.

"With the Baku Declaration adopted at the Summit, member states once again reaffirmed their commitment to preserving peace, prosperity and stability in Asia, in a spirit of common cooperation based on regional ownership," the ministry said.

The ministry also welcomed the extension of Azerbaijan's chairmanship for the 2026-2028 period, saying the move would help ensure institutional continuity as CICA moves towards becoming a fully fledged international organisation.

It also expressed gratitude to Ambassador Kairat Sarybay for his "strong and dedicated leadership" as CICA secretary-general and his contributions to increasing the organisation's international influence.

The ministry wished success to Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev, who was appointed the new CICA secretary-general.

"Türkiye will continue to actively contribute to CICA activities in the coming period," it added.
