At least 18 people have been killed and 142 others wounded in recent US air strikes in Iran, a Health Ministry official said on Thursday, as military hostilities intensify after a month-long lull.
Hossein Kermanpour, spokesperson for Iran’s Health Ministry, said in a post on X that the casualties occurred between the evenings of August 30 and September 2.
The wounded included 61 women and 44 children, while two women and one child were among those killed, Kermanpour said.
“Behind every number stands a human being and a family,” he said.
The casualties came amid renewed military escalation following a US strike on Larak Island on Sunday, which ended a month-long lull in regional hostilities.
Washington said US forces targeted two Iranian launchers after observing preparations to deploy rockets carrying sea mines.
Renewed regional escalation
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated by attacking US military facilities in neighbouring countries, including Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq.
US Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, launched fresh air strikes against IRGC targets inside Iran late on Tuesday.
The current fighting follows the collapse of a June 17 2026 memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Clashes resumed in July after disagreements emerged over its implementation.
