How to rebuild Ukraine while the war still rages? | The InnerView
Mustafa Nayyem is Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure. He tells The InnerView that rebuilding critical infrastructure, damaged by Russia’s attack, in order to serve the war effort, is just one part of his challenge. The other is the long-term vision. How to reconstruct the nation’s bridges and roads, homes, hospitals and schools amid an unclear future? And how to spend the billions of dollars in pledged donor money in a country often criticised for extreme levels of corruption?   Nayyem has a fascinating story. He started out as one of those government critics, as the young journalist of Afghan origin who publicly confronted former President Viktor Yanukovych and helped mobilize thousands people to take to the streets during the Euromaidan protests. A decade on, Nayyem, the journalist who spoke truth to power, is now in a position of power amid a devastating war.
