The mangrove plant is a survivor. It can grow in mud, sand, peat and even coral rocks. And its ecosystem sustains the biodiversity of the ocean in coastal Kenya. In the city of Lamu, an environmental champion known locally as ‘Mother Mangrove’ is leading the charge to restore them along the shores she calls home.
