Ukraine-Russia: Is Peace Possible? | Bigger than Five
President Trump's suspension of US military aid to Ukraine in early March caused consternation across Europe, with leaders meeting in London to renew their commitment to Ukraine’s defence. President Zelenskyy has since agreed in principle to a US-brokered temporary ceasefire, stressing that Russia must do likewise. But will Washington put pressure on President Putin? In interviews recorded on 5 March, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko insists that Kyiv is ready for concessions, but rules out any recognition of Russian control of Ukrainian territory. And Alan Duncan, former UK Minister for Europe and the Americas, argues that a political settlement should not result in the surrender of Ukraine. What are the prospects for a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, and what should Europe's role be in securing it? We discuss these issues on this edition of Bigger than Five.
