Sir Antony Beevor on Russia, writing history and why he hates (most) war movies | The InnerView
Sir Antony Beevor, author of bestsellers such as Stalingrad and The Second World War joins Imran Garda to talk about his latest book, Russia: Revolution and Civil War, 1917-1921 to explain why those events more than one hundred years ago echo with relevance in today’s turbulent times. The two sat down at Minoa Pera bookstore in Istanbul to discuss the personalities of Tsar Nicholas II and Lenin and weigh up whether history is created by great men or great circumstances. The great historian also explains why no amount of soul-stirring storytelling can alter his disdain for Hollywood-produced historical movies that play fast and loose with the facts.
