Pro-Palestinian activists gathered outside Piraeus Port near Athens on Friday to protest the arrival of the Israeli cruise ship Crown Iris, calling for an end to Greece’s close ties with Israel.
The demonstration was organised by the Greek Union of Sailors (PENEN) and brought together left-wing political parties, associations, collectives and rights groups, according to Greek daily Prin.
Protesters waved Palestinian flags and held banners denouncing Israel’s actions in Gaza while chanting that the ship and its passengers were unwelcome in Greece.
Protesters demand stronger action on Gaza
Organisers said the demonstration was part of their continuing solidarity campaign for Palestinians and renewed calls for the Greek government to sever relations with Israel.
“Support for the Palestinian people will continue and strengthen until their victory,” the organisers said in a statement.
A heavy police presence was deployed around the port as Israeli passengers prepared to disembark.
The Crown Iris has faced similar protests at Greek ports since mid-2025, with demonstrations focused on the Gaza genocide and Greece’s relationship with Israel.
Some previous protests have also included claims that off-duty Israeli soldiers were among passengers.
