Vayu, which is now classified as a very severe cyclonic storm, is expected to hit Gujarat state early on Thursday. Authorities are trying to evacuate close to 300,000 people living in coastal areas.
The strongest cyclone to hit India in five years killed at least twelve people in eastern Odisha state, before swinging north-eastwards into Bangladesh on Saturday where four more people died although more than a million had been evacuated.
Indian weather service says cyclone Fani is expected to make landfall on Friday afternoon in Odisha state and barrel northeastwards on a pathway close to the homes of more than 100 million people.
Fani is heading north-northwest in the Bay of Bengal towards India's Odisha state. The storm is generating maximum sustained winds of 157 kph, according to the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
