Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site in western Colorado state will acquire an additional 3,478 acres and is known for the mass killings of Native people by American soldiers in 1864.
New names for nearly 650 places bearing offensive word "squaw" include mundane (Echo Peak, Texas) peculiar (No Name Island, Maine) and Indigenous terms (Nammi'I Naokwaide, Idaho).
The plaque noted the site of a burial ground for students who attended the Albuquerque Indian School between 1882 and 1933.
