Officials say the attack took place in northern Sar-i-Pul province in which an Afghan Taliban commander was also killed. Separately, officials say Afghan forces freed at least 54 people from a Taliban prison in southern Helmand province.
The blast took place as spectators were leaving a wrestling match in southern Lashkargah city, wounding over 42 people. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
As many as 13 people, including both Afghan army soldiers and civilians, were killed and 18 wounded by a car bomb in the southern province of Helmand.
No one has claimed responsibility for the suicide car bombing which targeted the country's security forces in the Lashkar Gah city of Helmand province.
