Facebook says its profits rose to over $9 billion in the last quarter, hours after a US news collective published reports saying the platform allowed hate speech to flourish internationally and knew its algorithm fuelled toxic polarisation online.
The new measures, which will be the largest change to US tax laws since the 1980s, include tax cuts and are expected to add more than $1 trillion to the deficit over 10 years.
A software tool to be released by the end of this year will allow users to see whether they engaged with Facebook pages or Instagram accounts considered part of a Russian effort to meddle with last year's US election.
