Violent storms in recent days have dumped a month's worth of rain on some areas in a matter of hours, devastating the southern coast of Sao Paulo state and poor neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
The building, a former federal police headquarters, was engulfed in a blaze before the floors started falling on themselves like dominoes with debris flying in all directions.
The Guarani Indian tribe was always easy to miss even though it has lived in Sao Paulo for more than three centuries. Now the tribe could disappear entirely as the government plans to reduce the size of their reservation.
