Gun battle between Indian troops and Kashmiri rebels sparks protests in India-administered Kashmir where more than 550 people including 150 civilians were killed in 2018, deadliest year in a decade, according to a monitoring group.
Clashes followed a stringent curfew witnessed in India-administered Kashmir on the first death anniversary of Burhan Wani whose killing sparked an outpouring of grief and anger leading to months-long violent protests in 2016.
Two pro-independence rebels and an Indian policeman were killed in the town of Tral sparking anti-India protests. Demonstrators, who tried to march to the site of the fighting, were stopped with controversial pellet shotguns.
