Most of the deaths caused by Typhoon Phanfone were reported in remote villages and popular tourist areas of central Philippines on Christmas day, officials said.
Over 10,000 people spent the night in schools, gyms and government buildings hastily converted into evacuation centres as the typhoon made landfall, civil defence officials say.
