Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hopes the administration of president-elect Donald Trump will be more supportive of his government's policies.

US Secretary of State John Kerry defended the Obama administration's position against Israel building more settlements on occupied Palestinian land on Wednesday.

The US abstained from a UN Security Council vote condemning settlements last Friday. The move created a strong backlash from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his US supporters — among them president-elect Donald Trump.
