Moldova has recalled its ambassador to Russia for consultations after an explosion involving what authorities described as a "drone-missile" in the southern village of Crocmaz.
The Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned the incident as a "serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity" of Moldova, saying it endangered the safety of civilians.
"The Republic of Moldova condemns Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the security of our country and the entire region," the ministry said.
President Maia Sandu also condemned the explosion, calling it a "violation of our airspace."
"This is a direct consequence of Russia's war, and it endangers us all," she said on X. "The risk to human life in our region is real and growing. It must stop."
Explosion damages homes
A powerful explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon in Crocmaz, about 69 kilometres from Ukraine's Odessa region, triggering a vegetation fire, state-run Moldpress reported, citing police.
Police said the aircraft struck a tree in a forested area before exploding about 2.5 metres above the ground.
No casualties were reported, but fragments were scattered across a wide area and damaged several homes, according to police.
Russia has not commented on Moldova's latest statement.
