Outdoor nursery offers alternative childcare to UK children

Nestled in the forest of England's Dorset county, the Elves and Fairies nursery is far from a traditional day care centre where the whole day is spent outdoors.

In this photo taken Tuesday, July 8, 2014, Hector, aged two, plays with a hammock at the "Into the Woods" outdoor children's nursery in Queen's Wood, in the Highgate area of north London. Forest schools are increasing in popularity in the United Kingdom, with many schools offering short courses for children to spend time outdoors, building dens, climbing trees and exploring.

Hidden in a British forest, an outdoor preschool is pioneering a new way of thinking about childcare.

Children at the Elves and Fairies Woodland Nursery stay outside in all weather. They are also allowed to climb trees and even use real saws to cut firewood.

The whole day is spent outdoors and although a woodland is far from a traditional classroom, the preschool follows national curriculum.
