Syrian refugees navigate Istanbul snow storm
Istanbul, a city of 15 million people, endured the heaviest snowfall in seven years this past week. Our photographer explores how both ordinary Turks and the many Syrian refugees who live in exile in Turkey's largest experienced the snow.
ISTANBUL, Turkey — For some, Istanbul was transformed into a winter wonderland. For the vulnerable, including the many homeless Syrian refugees, it was a different experience. The harsh freezing temperatures prevented many from going out to work on the streets to earn money that they desperately depend on, while others braved the blizzard to earn whatever they still could.
