Officials to probe Amtrak train derailment in Seattle

The derailment occurred on the first day Amtrak train began using the new inland route between the Washington cities of Tacoma and Olympia, part of a $181 million project to cut travel time.

In the US state of Washington, a passenger train derailed on Monday, sending its cabin cars crashing on to a major highway, south of Seattle.

The Amtrak train was carrying more than 80 passengers and crew when it crashed.

The derailment, which happened during rush hour, left at least three people dead and more than 50 injured.
