Kenya imposes 16% added tax on all petroleum

The Kenyan government is stuck between pleasing citizens and trying to secure a loan from the IMF in a bid to raise state revenues.

Kenyans are feeling the pinch from a new tax on petroleum that is part of a government effort to raise state revenues. 

The 16-percent value added tax on petroleum products tax went into effect this month. 

It has driven up prices at the pumps by about 12 percent, sparking opposition.
